When I started thinking about planning a long motorcycle trip, I knew the two biggest obstacles: time and money. Being someone who likes to look at things on a spreadsheet with optimal fiscal planning in mind I did what most of us do, I googled “motorcycle trip budget spreadsheet”(or the like). It was via this search that I came across a trip cost calculator on advrider.com (specifically this thread).
The spreadsheet was a good start, but I ended up adding some things and simplifying others. It takes into account the concept of sleeping for free and motorcycle maintenance needs along with other slightly unique parts to motorcycle trips.
This allows you to plan out costs for :
- Gas – with MPG and cost calculations
- Housing
- Meals
- Bike Prep and in-trip maintenance Costs
- Other in-trip costs
